First time visiting?
Coming along for the first time can be daunting. Have a read of New here? for what to expect when you walk through our doors.
Our times together are family-friendly, suitable for all ages and stages of faith. We don't mind if you've been to church heaps, or if you are just wondering who this Jesus guy is. In our service of worship, you can expect music, prayer, words to say together, hearing from the Bible, a short talk, and Eucharist (Communion) in which we celebrate Jesus' life, death and resurrection through sharing the symbols of bread and wine together.
We love exploring different expressions of worship of our creative God. All of our times together are for everyone, but knowing that we all learn and express ourselves in different ways, we have a few different types of Sunday worship.
Our next services
Café Church
Café Church is held in the hall, around tables. We start with a really good morning tea (and the coffee machine is out!) from 9.45am to chat and relax, and then move into a time of worship from 10.15 or so. All the elements of 'normal' church are present — with the emphasis on discussion, interactivity and creativity. Sung worship is led by our youth band.
Sunday Eucharist
Sunday Eucharist is our 'normal' service, taking place in the church itself. We often call it 'all in' because we're all in together — worshipping and learning as the whole family of faith.
Children's Programme
Some weeks we offer a children's programme — we begin together, and then tamariki head to the hall for a dedicated time of learning and fun together, joining again for Eucharist. A great chance for young and not so young to dig deeper in their own ways.
Tikanga Māori te reo service
We are delighted that Poneke Pastorate holds regular Tikanga Māori services at St Michael's, held in te reo. These take place on the fourth Sunday of the month at 11.30, and are open to everyone.
Next service:

Marking stages of life
We are here for our extended Newlands community in all stages of life, joyful and hard.
If you've experienced the loss of a loved one and are looking for funeral options, please be in touch. Likewise if you would like prayer in your home after a death, or if you're experiencing uncomfortable supernatural happenings; we are able to come and pray with you.
For us, baptisms and confirmations (for when you were baptised as a child but want to recommit), and weddings are important markers of commitment to following Jesus, and we take them seriously (and with joy!) and see them as part of being connected in on a faith journey. If you'd like to get baptised or confirmed, or if you're getting married, please get in touch.
